Medical group from Turkey on a mission for health assessment to Bangsamoro

Officials from the University of Health Sciences in Istanbul, Turkey are now on a mission for health assessment in the Bangsamoro. This medical group arrived in Bangsamoro on August 2, 2019. The Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) welcomed and received them with gratitude at the agency’s central management office in Cotabato City.

Part of the mission of was a courtesy visit to BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim on Aug. 4. The UHS team also visited a rural health unit (RHU) in Brgy. Libungan, Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao.

To further have the understanding of health system in the region, the group likewise went to Cotabato City Regional and Medical Center (CRMC), the largest hospital in the region on Aug. 6.

They also visited Sanitarium Hospital in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao and also to the BARMM Ministry of Health.

On Aug. 7, the Turkish delegate facilitated a forum on public health to a hundred of participants coming from various sectors in Cotabato City and Maguindanao such health services personnel from CRMC, Sanitarium Hospital, Doctors de Barrio, volunteers from BDA and Bangsamoro Emergency Action Team (BEAT) including medical in professionals.

Minister Dr. Saffrullah M. Dipatuan of the BARMM Ministry of Health together with his staff also graced the forum.

Team from BDA led by Dr. Rizaldy Piang, Dr. Sherjan Kalim, Carolyn Biruar and Hairanna Daud together with Bangsamoro scholars (who helped in translation) Abdulshattar Zailon, Norhudda Bansil and Nasrudin Kusain accompanied the UHS officials during this mission.

Today, Aug. 8, the team will be at BDA-CMO to present the initial output of their mission before they will leave for Turkey the following day.
